Add an Appraiser

This topic explains how to add columns for each appraiser's scores to the Detail score sheet.

This task is necessary only when you are using the Detail score sheet and are typing each appraiser's score into the scoring program, rather than entering a manually calculated average of the appraisers' scores.

Typically, information about appraisers comes from the tournament Challenge Masters. Contact the Tournament Director or Challenge Masters in advance to obtain this data, but be prepared to edit it on the morning of the tournament.

Tip!
This topic explains how to add individual appraisers to a single challenge level. To add a group of appraisers to more than one challenge level, see Import an Appraiser List.
Notes
You can add appraisers only to the Detail score sheet. For information, see Select a Score Sheet.
All computers scoring a challenge level must have the same appraiser list. Otherwise, you will not be able to check scores or merge scores accurately. If you change appraiser data, you must copy your changes to all affected computers (see Managing Appraiser Data).

To add an appraiser column to the Detail score sheet:

  1. In a challenge-level window, from the Edit menu, select Enter IC Appraisers or Enter TC Appraisers. (It doesn't matter which team is selected.)
Or, click the IC Appraisers or TC Appraisers button in the toolbar.
  2. In the Edit Appraisers dialog box, from the Edit menu, select Add appraiser.
Or, click the Add Appraiser button in the toolbar.
  3. In the resulting window, enter a name or other identifying word or words for the Appraiser ID. From the pull-down menu, select Items Scored. The choices for Team Challenge are Nothing, Central Challenge Only, Team Choice Only, or Everything (the default). In step 5 below, you may specify the Items Scored in more detail. For Instant Challenge, the only choice is Everything; all Appraisers are to score every element.

OK the selection to continue, or Cancel to not add that appraiser. Then repeat steps 2 and 3 until all appraisers for that challenge and level have been listed.

  4. The appraiser columns appear on the score sheet in the same order as they do in the Edit Appraisers window. If no appraiser column is highlighted, the new appraiser is added to the far right side of the sheet. If an appraiser column is highlighted (click anywhere in the column below the Appraiser ID to highlight), the new appraiser is added immediately to the right of the highlighted column. To direct this addition of appraisers, highlight the column to the left of the position you wish the new appraiser to occupy. To rearrange the appraiser columns later, drag them into the desired order by clicking on the Appraiser ID at the top of the column.

  5. To identify more specifically the challenge elements that an appraiser is scoring, click the corresponding checkboxes beneath that appraiser's name in the Edit Appraisers window. The check boxes are toggle buttons. Their value changes each time you click them.

    Note
Make sure that the Challenge Masters have assigned at least two appraisers to score each subjective element of the challenge. If only one appraiser is assigned, the DI Scoring Program displays an error message and asks you to correct the error. (For information on objective and subjective items, see Scoring Rules.)
  6. To change an Appraiser ID, click that cell at the top of the column. In the resulting window, edit the present Appraiser ID.

The Appraiser ID appears on the on-screen score sheet. It identifies the appraiser to users and to the DI Scoring Program. Appraiser IDs must be unique. Each appraiser must have only one Appraiser ID and all computers scoring the challenge must use same ID to identify the appraiser.

  7. Repeat the process for each appraiser you add, and then click Save to save the data.

When you open the score sheet, you can see a column for each appraiser you added.
