Team Status, Tournament Reports and Advancement

Once you have defined the Team list for your tournament's Scoring Program, there's always the possibility that you'll encounter some change in that list. Your region or Affiliate certainly may have defined what impact that change should have on Advancement - and you'll also need to know what the Scoring Program will do - depending on how you document that change!

If a team elects to withdraw or change to a non-competing role in your tournament, you and the Tournament Director may choose to simply delete that Team from your Scoring Program. If you instead wish to display that team in the Reports from the tournament, you may change that Team's Status through the Team Editor.

On the other hand, if a team is disqualified or becomes a "no show," that's likely to be a last-minute decision, occurring right in the middle of your Tournament Day!

When you change a Team's Status from the default OK any of the other values - No Show (NS), Disqualified (DQ), Non Competing (NC)or Withdrawn (WD) - that Team's scores are considered as though they were all zeroes! (You won't need to change or remove any individual scores, and any scores not yet entered will also not cause you any problems - such as not permitting the printing of any final report.)

Whether a Team's Status is DQ, NS or WD, there's a similar impact on any report, but an NC team yields quite a different result.

In a Final Scores Report - printed either for a single Challenge and Level or for your complete tournament - each NC team effective reduces the number of competing teams by one when your Advancement Rules are being applied to that Challenge and Level. All the DQ, NS and WD teams have no similar impact.

For example, if the Scoring Program team load for your Tournament initially includes seven teams in the Elementary Level of the Scientific Challenge, if one of these teams becomes NC, that Challenge Level will be evaluated for advancement as if only six teams existed. If one or more teams become DQ, NS or WD, the level continues to be evaluated for advancement as if all seven original teams remain. (Think of this as a reflection of the number of teams actually competing in that Level.)

In that Final Scores Report for any Level, each of the NC, DQ, NS and WD teams is listed following the last-place team - in what seems to be no particular order - without indicating any scores, but only noting which Status applies, thus explaing the reason why scores are not displayed.

In a Meet Summary with Scores Report - which is printed only for your complete tournament - you'll see the same as described above for the Final Scores Report.

In a Meet Summary Report (without scores) - also printed only for the complete tournament - you'll see that the NC, DQ, NS and WD teams are assigned the last places, without any designation explaining why that occurred. It's truly a report without scores!
